Built in 1920, this "timeless" Gold Coast "landmark" has a "knowledgeable" staff, an "overwhelmingly beautiful" lobby brimming with flowers, "fine dining" (including Drake Bros. Steaks Chicago) and a harpist-assisted afternoon tea that's "worth the visit alone"; the underwhelmed claim that this Italianate "grande dame is a little tired", with "elegant" but "stylistically dated" rooms that "vary greatly" – luckily, a renovation is underway.

The history of the Drake is an attraction.
It would have been nice to have an exhaust fan in the bathroom.

We loved the location and convenience. It was easy walking distance to a couple of events we were in town for. The concierge staff were very helpful.

Clean, great location, very old style hotel. The hotel was only going to provide 2 over-sized twin beds for us for all for of us! They wanted to then charge us more. In the end we ended up with a king and two rollaways. Small room with no walking space left, not the most comfortable. ...read more

It was great. They gave us an enormous room. It was very comfortable and had a gorgeous view. The staff was lovely. The only complaints I have are that one of the outlets was almost shocked me -- big blue sparks -- and that you have to pay for internet. ...read more
